Why is modular construction ideal for the Nordic countries?

Steel frame modular construction is becoming increasingly popular in countries with harsh climates, such as the Nordic countries of Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Iceland, Finland, Åland and the Faroe Islands and Greenland. In these regions, where the construction season is significantly shortened by long and cold winters, modern building methods such as modular construction offer solutions that can significantly speed up the construction process.

Minimising the impact of the weather

One of the main advantages of modular construction is that the finished elements can be quickly assembled on site. Modules are manufactured under controlled factory conditions, which not only reduces production time but also ensures a high-quality finish. In regions with a short construction season, such as Scandinavia, this feature is invaluable, enabling projects to be completed in a matter of weeks rather than months or even years.

The advantage of QMODULAR

The advantage of QMODULAR technology is the ability to adapt the insulation properties to current weather conditions. Thanks to the use of advanced materials and solutions, partitions can increase or decrease their insulating capacity as required, ensuring an optimal indoor temperature throughout the year. This adaptability is crucial in regions where temperatures can vary significantly from season to season. In accordance with the Qmodular standard for cold countries, we offer a very low heat transfer coefficient for each building envelope. For example, the floor at ground level with underfloor heating has a thermal insulation of 0.18 W/m2K. The ceiling 0.11 W/m2K and the pitched roof 0.1 W/m2K. An exterior wall with quartz spackle is up to 0.15 W/m2K. The lower the heat transfer coefficient, the better the thermal insulation of the envelope.

Energy efficiency and ecology

QMODULAR technology contributes to a significant reduction in the energy required to heat and cool buildings. This is particularly important in the Nordic countries, where environmental protection and sustainability are key concerns. Reduced energy consumption not only means lower running costs, but also a smaller carbon footprint, due in part to the elimination of concrete.

The main renewable energy sources used in Qmodular technology can be, for example, photovoltaics or energy storage. Qmodular technology is ecological due to the use of environmentally friendly materials, CNC machines and the use of grey water. The use of local manufacturers and suppliers, green roofs or recycling of materials, among other things, contribute to reducing the carbon footprint.

Versatility of use

QMODULAR technology can be applied to a wide range of construction projects, from single-family homes to office buildings and public facilities. The flexibility of this technology makes it the perfect solution for a wide range of needs and preferences, while offering unique advantages for adaptation to a cold climate.

Sustainability and ecology

Scandinavia has a reputation for environmental protection and sustainability. Modular construction fits in with these values through more efficient use of materials, reduced construction waste and the recyclability of modules. The steel structures that form the basis of modular construction are fully recyclable, further enhancing the environmental aspect of the technology.
QMODULAR technology represents an unprecedented solution in the construction industry, especially for regions with harsh climatic conditions and a limited construction season. This innovative method offers unique advantages that make it ideal for these demanding environments around the world.
